Self-care is not something we all do automatically, yet the difference it can make is remarkable.
Some of us have to be quite mindful of how we take care of ourselves. Busy lives often result in us forgetting the basics of self-care, however, being mindful of our self-care can really make a difference.

1. Find your happy spot
Whether you already have one, or you have to create one – find that place in your home that makes you feel calm. It might be on the couch by the TV, it might be sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee, it might just be a spot by the window… Find the place in your home that you can be you, enjoy your surroundings, and take a breather. This is one of the first steps to taking better self-care at home.
2. Spend time in the garden
The garden is a great place to enjoy some sunshine and get creative. Caring for a garden can be highly rewarding, and often relaxing. Grow your own herbs, fruit, and veggies, or keep it low maintenance with succulents and water-wise plants.
3. Bring the outdoors in
Don’t have a backyard or much outdoor space? Why not bring the outdoors in and create your very own indoor garden. Indoor gardens can make for a calming environment within the home. As humans, we love and enjoy nature, so it only makes sense to surround yourself with indoor greenery when you have limited outdoor space. Indoor plants can also help clean and purify the air within your home.
4. Get connected
Being at home doesn’t mean being alone. If you don’t live with friends or family, find other ways to get connected. There are many ways to meet and connect with people online. Video call a friend or relative. A face to face interaction can make all the difference. Not an option? Jump on the phone or dive into the wonderful world of Facebook, Reddit, Twitter and the like.

You are what you eat, but exercise is important too. There is no better feeling than the rush of endorphins you get after getting your body moving. 9. Listen to music, just music
Music can make you feel good, so take some time to listen to your favorite style of music. Put in some headphones and zone out, put on the radio while doing some cleaning or while out in the garden. Bringing music into your life can lift moods and energy levels.
